MBCC Remodel/Renewal: August, 2015

In Japan, the term for “rennovation” is “renewal.” Munakata Bethel Christian Center is going to be remodeling some key areas of the church in August, 2015. We would like your support of this worthwhile project, so we have provided details below. Please prayerfully consider a financial gift which will bless the community at MBCC for many years to come! Scope:

1) GENKAN. Church entry way (called the “genkan”) is currently uninsulated and faded from 25 years of sunshine beating on the walls. The paneling is peeling, discolored and outdated. We are going to strip the paneling away, insulate the front walls, and reseal everything with drywall, then paint. By reconditioning the genkan, we will have a warmer, more efficient, and aestetically pleasing entryway for years to come.

2) KITCHEN. Almost everything about the kitchen will be replaced. The refrigerator is currently leaking and missing its handle. The cabinets are donated from years past, and not entirely functional for the small spaces commonly found in Japanese buildings. By building more efficient shelving and counters, along with some new appliances, the kitchen will function much more efficiently. We are also going to cut a service-window from the kitchen to the sanctuary, making fellowship time less crowded and easier to manage the flow of food and dishes. Fellowship is an important part of our church culture, so this is one area we are really excited about. The roll-down shutter will keep the service window tidy and secure.

3) KIDS CLASS WALL and door sealing. We are going to build a simple wall to turn one room into two, as well as seal off a doorway. This will give the kids classroom more space, and it will enable our kids class to have a special place for babies and toddlers. Right now all ages are in the same room.

TOYS. The kids classroom is sorely lacking for activity toys for babies and toddlers.

4) SANCTUARY WALL PORTIONS. We are going to build out two areas left and right of the stage, approximately 4-foot wide walls pieces, to serve as a partition for housing equipment behind it. Currently we have curtains hanging to do the job, but the wall structures will be much more efficient to serve this purpose.

5) VIDEO EQUIPMENT. During this time we are also planning to upgrade our lighting, sound and video equipment. Currently we are using a standard projection system which projects our worship lyrics and scriptures on an upper wall. This is not very comfortable for those in the front rows who have to look up to view. General brightness of the room washes out the projection and its purposes are limited by the VGA connections. We are looking to replace this system with two 65-inch LED TVs, mounted to the front wall left and right.

6) STORAGE SHED. The church is out of space! We are planning to buy and erect an additional outdoor storage shed to house anything we don’t have room for in a dry, safe place.

7) AV BOOTH. An audio/video booth is currently in planning stages and might be built prior to August, 2015, but we put it in the plan here just in case. Cost for this piece is minimal for materials and some labor but it is an important piece of our expansion for the future.
